Dear Son,

You know the long list of 11 diagnoses we frequently talk to your doctors and therapists about, the ones that put you in a category of “special needs?” I want you to know that Y̲O̲U̲ A̲R̲E̲ N̲O̲T̲ A̲L̲O̲N̲E̲! Every single human in this world has their own set of “special needs.” You just get the fancy title because your needs are a little unique from the general population. Does that make you “weird,” or “a poor unfortunate soul,” or a “burden”? Absolutely not! Does it make me wish you didn’t have those “special needs?” Absolutely not! I can’t imagine how that would make you feel if I wished you to be any different than you are. Son, you are 𝗣𝗘𝗥𝗙𝗘𝗖𝗧 the way you are!

You know the long list of 11 diagnoses we frequently talk to your doctors and therapists about that puts you in a category of “disability?” I want you to know that Y̲O̲U̲ A̲R̲E̲ N̲O̲T̲ A̲L̲O̲N̲E̲. Every single human in this world has their own set of “disabilities.” You just get the fancy title because your needs are a little unique from the general population. You will never hear me say “it’s not fair.” I say, it’s not fair to say “it’s not fair.” Why?? Well, my sweet boy, because every single piece of your “special needs”, your “disabilities”, your challenges, your inch by inch milestones, the hope you give the world, the joy you bring into our lives, your beautiful 𝗣𝗨𝗥𝗣𝗢𝗦𝗘 God has gifted you, the beautiful 𝗣𝗨𝗥𝗣𝗢𝗦𝗘 God has gifted ME by getting to be your Mommy, and everything in between, makes up who you are! You are 𝗣𝗘𝗥𝗙𝗘𝗖𝗧 exactly how God made you, and that is exactly who Mommy wants you to be!

Are there challenges? Of course there are. But there are challenges that Mommy has with your sissy and bubba too. 𝗘𝗩𝗘𝗥𝗬𝗢𝗡𝗘 has challenges. It’s ok to have a different set of challenges. It’s ok to have a different set of “special needs”. It’s ok to have a different set of “disabilities”. If I were to mother you and treat you any differently than sissy or bubba, I know that would hurt you. I 𝗡𝗘𝗩𝗘𝗥 want to hold you back from your potential, and I know that potential is 𝗛𝗨𝗚𝗘! I never want to hold any of you back from your potential! This life is full of ups and downs, but through all of them, I promise to 𝗔𝗟𝗪𝗔𝗬𝗦 be there for you, your sissy, and your bubba! I promise to make sure each of you know that I wouldn’t wish you to be any different than the amazing individual humans that God has made you to be, and that He has truly blessed me with!!

Love,

Mommy….A woman who will never give up on you, and who 𝗔𝗟𝗦𝗢 has her own set of “special needs” and “disabilities” too, just like the rest of the world! ❤️
